Jim has 48 years experience in the IT field, approximately equally divided between serving as an IT executive and serving as an IT consultant. His experience is global in nature. Since co-founding SCC in 1986, he has assessed the IT situations of numerous major organizations and has served as an Interim CIO for several SCC clients.

Jim is also Executive Director of the Fisher Center for the Management of Information Technology within the Haas School of Business of UC Berkeley.  Jim also served in this role from 1992-1996 concurrent with his SCC role.

He has BS & MSEE degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC-Berkeley, where he also pursued Ph.D. studies in the area of Computer Architecture.  He is a Founding Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and was a member of both of its predecessor societies, the AIEE and the IRE. He has been a Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for over forty years.
